Engineering Design at its best:
Chocolate Moulding Chain from Cross + Morse
Cross + Morse have acquired a new piece of engineering software that enables their drawing office to perfect their designs before building them: Autodesk Inventor. They can now provide their customers with an even better service before manufacturing and installing custom made solutions.
With the help of this design software Cross+Morse have successfully refurbished an Aasted moulding plant for a major biscuit manufacturer by installing a replacement chocolate moulding chain into an Aasted moulding plant.
The efficiency of the plant was previously running at 74% but with the new chain from Cross+Morse the efficiency has been raised to 96% giving the site an additional £3m output per year.
Other work done to overhaul the equipment was to replace sprockets, shafts and gearboxes and the project was completed two weeks ahead of schedule.
Aasted moulding plants are extremely complex but Cross+Morse conducted a thorough survey of the plant before embarking on the refurbishment. One of the critical elements of the project are the blocks to carry the trays but the drawing office at Cross+Morse Birmingham were able to, with the aid of its up-to-date 3D CAD design software, create precise drawings to enable their workshop to machine these components.
