About Us
Crystran are optical engineers specialising in fabricating components from exotic materials. The materials that we work with are mainly crystal or innovative glasses used for their particular transmission properties, from which we derive the name of our company.
These materials include germanium and zinc selenide of course, but also calcium fluoride, magnesium fluoride and the broadest range of infrared and ultraviolet materials under one roof. We also work with many glass types suitable for visible optics or near IR and UV. Filter glasses, high index glasses or even the commonly found BK-7 can be supplied.
Crystran is a small company with a wealth of experience. As a part of a large international chemical company we spent more than 200 cumulative years working with specialised optical materials. Collectively we had overseen the manufacture of thousands of crystals and managed several large contracts in the USA, Japan and at the European research facility at CERN in Geneva.
All this proved to be a good start in December 1993 when we continued to trade under our own ownership, and today we occupy our own factory with 10,000 sq ft of manufacturing space and 20 employees including graduates in chemistry, physics and quality assurance. Our customer base is global and ranges from major international manufacturers of analytical and control instrumentation, aerospace companies and space agencies, to research establishments and most leading Universities worldwide.
By staying close to our customers and giving straightforward honest advice whenever we can. The sales team at Crystran possess a wide experience of not only optics, but also of the chemistry and physics of materials and of crystal growth. We have access to some of the finest crystal growth facilities in Europe through the agencies of our associate company in Germany, who are renowned for their high quality optical fluoride materials. Crystran is approved to ISO9001:2000 - follow the link to find out how this certification benefits our customers.
