Retractable Fall Arrestors EN 360
The Personal Safety Manufacturers Association (PSMA) wish to highlight a possible catastrophic failure if Retractable Fall Arrestors are used incorrectly.
Retractable Fall Arrestors EN 360
These devices should not be used horizontally and or in an over edge application, unless the relevant manufacturer is able to demonstrate that the device has been tested to replicate the manner of use. EN 360 standard testing only deals with the block being used vertically and without obstruction, with a maximum force on the user of 6kN.
A number of key issues need to be brought to the attention of users distributors and hirers.
1. Falls over an edge may subject the user to forces greater than the maximum 6kN.
2. The lifeline may break due to excess loading of the cable.
3. The lifeline may not retract correctly due to incorrect and uneven layering of the cable on drum. This may increase dramatically the possible fall factor (free fall)
IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS REGARDING USE OF RETRACTABLE FALL ARREST DEVICES CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER TO CLARIFY ITS SAFE USE.
