Our sales team tell me that a few customers are having a problem in selecting the right hand winch for their lifting application. One major cause for concern is in that the customer is thinking that the manufacturer’s line pull rating is the same as the Safe Working Load.
A winch line pull rating is based on the first rope layer and that with every rope layer that is added to the winch drum the effort required is greater. If you find that the winch you have takes an inordinate amount of effort to turn the operating handle, then that’s a sure sign that it is being over loaded. Particularly for longer lifts where lots more rope layers are being added.
In order to address these concerns and some similar issues customers are having, we have compiled a handy guide. You can read it online or download as PDF
