Impact On Shipping: China Covid-19 Update
13-08-2021
Operations at Ningbo were suspended this week following a single case of Covid-19 being detected on a 34-year-old worker. Analysts say China’s “zero tolerance” approach toward Covid will exacerbate already stressed supply chains this year. Ningbo-Zhoushan is the third busiest in the world by container volume. In 2019, it handled 27.49 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container throughput.
Due to a COVID outbreak we are expecting delays of 1-2 weeks to some schedules in consideration of this. Maersk added: “From a vessel schedule standpoint, sailings have largely continued as planned, albeit with some departure delays.” However, with Maersk also noting the deteriorating Covid situation in China, it listed some 14 transpacific sailings as being delayed over the next 10 weeks.
