Eight staff from GEZE UK, the UK’s leading door and window control system manufacturer, have achieved the newly introduced Fire Door Inspection Scheme diploma.
The Fire Door Inspection Scheme is dedicated to saving lives through improving fire safety. Set up by BWF-Certifire Scheme and the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI), it is the first such scheme in Europe.
The aim of the scheme is to:
• Help improve safety and save lives through creating a new pool of expertise and competence to help those with legal responsibilities under fire regulations.
• Provide a vital new resource to help the ‘Responsible Person’ complete fire risk assessments for the premises they manage.
• Raise awareness of defective fire doors and the potentially tragic consequences of leaving these unchecked.
The team studied a series of online modules, covering timber and metal fire doors, glazing, ironmongery and signage. Each module looks at the relevant regulations and standards that apply to fire door components and how certification is crucial to compliance. They then took a written examination. Holders of the diploma can go on to become Certified Fire Door Inspectors.
Managing Director Kaz Spiewakowski commented: “About 3 million new fire doors are bought and installed every year in the UK, so as an industry we need to constantly work to ensure their safe operation. GEZE UK recognises the importance of this scheme and its aims of improving safety and saving lives in fire situations. It’s a challenging programme and I’m very pleased we have so many colleagues involved.”
