Mind the Gap

Fire doors save lives and property! They are a crucial part of the passive fire protection of every commercial, public and multiple occupancy building. GEZE UK is once again supporting the Fire Door Safety Week campaign, 14th – 20th September 2015, which aims to engage and educate building owners and building users on how to use fire doors properly. The campaign is the brainchild of the BWF-Certifire Fire Door Scheme, and on their website they offer help and advice to building owners, building users, facilities managers and contractors. From advice on simple checks to make sure fire doors are safe, including how to use a gap tester, to choosing a fire door installer, the website is an invaluable source of information. As part of Fire Door Safety Week GEZE UK is offering a free gap tester to any specifier or facilities manager that emails them at info.uk@geze.com before the end of September. Designed to measure the gap between the door frame and door leaf this handy little tool can immediately tell you if the gap around the fire door is more than the recommended 3mm. GEZE UK also offer a RIBA approved CPD entitled ‘Designing Effective Natural Heat & Smoke Ventilation’ that looks at the requirements for selection and specification of fire and smoke venting equipment in residential and commercial properties. In another CPD, ‘Specifying, Installing and Maintaining Ironmongery for Fire Doors, the focus is on the components of a fire door and the part they each play in fire safety.
