At Go Geothermal we are continually striving to encourage “best practice” in the supply & installation of Ground Source products. One of the many questions we are often asked is there a requirement for Marker Tape & Sanitizer/Biocides in Ground Source installations. Outlined below are extracts from installation documents and manufacturers giving clear guidance advocating the use of these products.
Marker Tapes for use in Ground Source Applications
VDI4640 Document Extracts
Part 2 - Use of the shallow underground using horizontal ground heat exchangers (horizontal loops)
Part 4.2.2 – Earthworks – the use of Marker Tape
The loops can be arranged in individual trenches, in order to avoid a widespread destruction of the natural soil. A further possibility is the widespread stripping of the underground for the loops. To ensure that the pipes are not damaged they should be installed in a sand layer. A warning tape must be laid approx. 30cm above the pipes. Dependent upon the type of later surface area usage, the underground should be compacted in accordance with the general guidelines.
Adopting “best practice” the GSHPA will be issuing a document later this year detailing installation practice in which it will state that the use of Marker Tapes must be adopted in all horizontal ground loop installations.
Is £0.06 per metre worth compromising yourself and your clients...??
