Ethics in Finance – Robin Cosgrove Prize
03-02-2011
At Guardian Wealth Management we are keen supporters of the Robin Cosgrove Ethics in Finance and would like to highlight that the final date for submissions of papers for the global Ethics in Finance – Robin Cosgrove Prize is March 31 2011. Carol Cosgrove, the Director of Ethics in Finance, tells us more.
Why not write a paper for the Prize?
The Robin Cosgrove Prize is committed to implementing ideas on how to promote trust and ethical behaviour in all aspects of the finance sector. The Prize of USD 20,000 will be awarded to the best Innovative Ideas for Ethics in Finance. It is open to young people, aged 35 years or younger, from throughout the world. The competition invites creative papers setting out analyses or proposals for projects for innovative ways to promote ethics in finance and banking.
The competition is open until March 31 2011. Young people who may be interested must complete an Expression of Interest, which is available on the website, and send it to me. We want to encourage papers from all over the world. The papers can be submitted in English or in French for the global Prize.
We also have the regional Prize [USD 15,000] targeted at Latin America, Spain and Portugal, and papers may be submitted in Spanish or in Portuguese.
Remember, banking, investment and finance generally rest on trust. Robin was convinced that the international finance business was in danger of losing peoples trust, and this would be catastrophic in its results. We have since seen how prophetic his views were! Robin was keen to encourage the younger generation to “do the right thing because it is the right thing to do”. He had hoped to set up a foundation to reach out to young finance professionals and to those who aspire to join the sector, planning training and development programmes to raise awareness of ethics and integrity, and so encouraging the sustainability of the finance industry. Sadly he died, not far from Geneva in 2004, at age 31, before he could put his ideas into action.
