Chemical Distribution Pumps
Seagate Technology, the worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of hard disc drives, has established it’s world headquarters for such production in Northern Ireland, where Hayward Tyler canned motor pumps are installed in their chemical distribution system for the handling of a wide range of corrosive and hazardous liquids. Nanotechnology is science at the scale of molecules and atoms with a nanometre being equal to a billionth of a metre. Seagate employs this technology in the creation of thin film transducer heads used in the transfer of data to hard disc drives. Their Limavaday facility in Northern Ireland produces nickel-plated aluminium substrates, the core material on which computer hard disk drive heads write and store digital information. Integral to the manufacture of such materials is the transfer and distribution around the plant of a wide range of chemicals, many of which are corrosive or hazardous in some other manner. For the latest plant expansion Hayward Tyler canned motor pump models 7CCB-5D-751-1S AND 7CCA-3D-751-1S were selected for this increased safety application. The basis of their selection was not solely due to their sealless / leakproof design but additionally these pumps were fitted with inbuilt bearing monitors, allowing plant operators to determine the condition of the pump bearings without the need to strip and open the pumps, thus avoiding unnecessary exposure to the hazardous chemicals being pumped.
