Closed-circuit blast system for TODS Defence
Hodge Clemco recently manufactured a closed-circuit blast system for Tods Defence in Dorset.
Tods Defence bought the closed-circuit blast system to blast large sonar pods that sit on the front of submarines and war ships, the pods are made of carbon fibre. The reasons for closed circuit blasting are that the pods are too large to transport, so they blast the units inside the workshop. Therefore, they need to manage dust and control grit which means they cannot open nozzle blast outside. They are blasting the pods to add a key to the surface course enough to hold the coating that is applied.
Closed-circuit blasting units work by collecting the spent material, removing any contamination, and feeding the clean recycled grit back to the blast nozzle. These types of machines are used on applications where dustless blasting and containing the airborne abrasive and dust is essential. It is important in areas where other personnel are working. These machines provide a low cost and efficient means for in-situ dustless blasting.
