Feasibility Study, Concept Design, Electrical & Water System Design
In response to a leading Offshore Modular Accommodation supplier looking to exploit opportunities in the offshore renewables sector, the company undertook a Feasibility Study into an Accommodation Barge conversion project.
Firstly, the client was keen to support UK & European cable laying operations through providing a barge that included accommodation modules. Secondly, they saw potential in providing larger accommodation barges for up to two hundred staff to projects in West Africa, Australasia and the Middle East.
Houlder's Marine Design team was tasked with summarising the overall requirement and providing a commentary on the pros and cons of barges identified by the client. This led to a preferred barge being identified which formed the basis of concept design.
Specific outputs included a General Arrangement showing all decks, compartments and modular accommodation. Houlder's Marine Design team also provided a summary of Class requirements (MCA and SOLAS) and design sketches and budgets for electrical, fresh water and black and grey water systems. The design team provided a findings report and attended design review meetings throughout.
The Feasibility Study and concept design proved the accommodation barge concept was a technically sound and viable project.
