The JMS Christmas Lights hit the headlines
11-12-2015
We’ve been overwhelmed with support over the last two weeks with messages of support of our Christmas Lights at our Head Office in Harpenden.
Every year, JMS Plant Hire get into the Christmas spirit by using one of their Mega Booms (a Genie SX 180 to be precise) to display some festive cheer.
However, as you may well be aware, following one less-than-festive comment to the local Council – we received a letter on the 1 December from StAlbans City & District Council demanding the removal of the christmas lights.

We explained the full picture to the Council and were delighted to receive a follow up notification – giving us till 6 January so we can keep the lights for people to enjoy over Christmas.

Meanwhile we’ve been overwhelmed with letters and messages of support – A Facebook page Save the JMS Lights attracted hundreds of fans and following the letter was promptly switched to “Enjoy the JMS lights”.
Managing Director Mark Jackson explained, “It’s become an annual event and we get such nice comments from our friends and neighbours here – from all ages. It was a bit of a shock to receive the letter but we were so pleased when we received notification from the Council that they had reconsidered. In particular the Council cited the “significant local support for the lights”
Thank you StAlbans City & District Council, thank you the good people of Harpenden and Merry Christmas – one and all.
Special thanks to The Herts Advertiser and 3 Counties Radio in supporting this story of festive cheer.
