Automatic Labelling Machine The Challenge Established in 2009, Vuba is a market-leading manufacturer of resin surfacing products. Their innovative range of polyurethane, acrylic and epoxy resins are produced in Beverley, East Yorkshire, and distributed worldwide. Trade and DIY customers also benefit from their programme of resin-bound training courses. When the Vuba team approached Karmelle Ltd in 2021, they were labelling 2.5 and 5-litre containers by hand. Keen to automate this labour-intensive process, they asked Karmelle to develop a solution. The machine would need to be suitable for two different applications: applying front and back labels to 5-litre containers, and a single label to 2.5-litre containers. The Solution After meeting with Vuba to discuss their requirements, Karmelle established that a Front and Back Labelling Machine would be the best choice for production. Featuring Servo S2-175 Labelling Heads and controlled via an HMI screen, this system would dispense labels at speeds of up to 80 per minute. The machine was designed and manufactured to Vuba’s specifications, with their team attending Factory Acceptance Testing prior to delivery. It was approved and shipped the next day, enabling Vuba to meet its grant deadline. Labelled containers exit the machine, ready for packing The Result The new system has had a significant impact on production, enabling Vuba to label in one hour what they were previously hand-labelling in 20 hours. James Purdy, Operations Director at Vuba, added, ‘we’re over the moon with the labeller, which is already proving its worth.
