Kingly hosted an engaging sustainability workshop for 33 students from Gianni Rodari School in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event which was held last Thursday in our sock knitting facility brought young minds into the heart of Kingly’s operations, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how sustainability, innovation, and creativity converge to create eco-friendly products.
“Kingly’s mission goes beyond creating sustainable products—we aim to inspire the next generation to see sustainability as a path to innovation and creativity,” said Rob Armour, CEO of Kingly. “These students are the changemakers of tomorrow, and we’re honored to play a role in shaping their understanding of how responsible business practices can make a positive impact on the world.”
The day began with an introduction to the art of sock knitting, led by Apparel Manager Krasimira Siderova and the Head of the Sock Knitting department Muhammad Usman ul Haq. The students witnessed the transformation of simple threads into intricately designed socks, marveling at the advanced machinery that seamlessly merges craftsmanship with technology. Along the way, they learned about Kingly’s commitment to sustainability, including the use of eco-friendly materials like GOTS-certified organic cotton, upcycled cotton, and Euro Eco Cotton, as well as how production offcuts are repurposed into innovative products.
One of the most memorable moments was a hands-on workshop where the students upcycled defective socks, yarn bobbins, and textile waste into festive Christmas ornaments. The activity showcased how sustainability can fuel creativity and turn discarded materials into something beautiful and purposeful.
The students also explored the world of Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printing, watching vibrant designs come to life on T-shirts and bags. This demonstration highlighted DTG printing’s ability to minimize waste while offering endless creative opportunities.
To commemorate the workshop, each student received a special DTG-printed gift bag containing a pair of Kingly-made socks and a copy of 101 Uses of a Kingly Sock, written by Kingly’s CEO, Rob Armour, and illustrated by Boryana Ivanova. The book inspired students to think outside the box about the potential uses of everyday items.
Kingly’s workshop served as a reminder of the power of education to inspire change and foster a greater appreciation for sustainability. By opening its doors to young minds, Kingly hopes to spark curiosity and creativity that will shape a greener future.
