Concrete Screws Installation

Concrete screws are fast becoming the professional tradesman first choice for fixing into all types of masonry. There are several reasons for this – they are cheap, readily available, require no special tools and have high pull out resistance, but the biggest factor in their rise in popularity is the ease and speed of installation. This short guide will outline how to install concrete screws properly and the tools you will need to do so.

What tools do I need?

Not much, and nothing special. All you will need is:

A pencil

A cordless hammer drill (preferably 18V, but a good 12V model would suffice in brickwork)

A masonry drill bit (please see reference table below for correct size)

A torx driver bit (please see reference table below for correct size)

Blow out pump, or hole cleaning brush (you can just ‘blow’ the dust out if you don’t have these, but don’t blame us if you get dust in your mouth)

Installation process

Using your pencil, mark the required fixing points

Dill out the holes using the cordless drill and masonry bit. Remember to drill at least 25mm deeper than you plan to insert to screws

Clean the hole with your blow out bump or hole cleaning brush. This is quite important as any debris left in the hole can cause the screw to clog/snap.

Use your concrete screws to fasten your fixture to the masonry. If the screw does get stuck during insertion (which can sometimes happen, especially in brick) just wind the screw back a couple of turns and try again.

Key points to remember

A couple of things to remember when using concrete screws

Always drill at least 25mm deeper than the screw will be embedded in the concrete. This gives you best chance of having a clean hole with little debris

Always clean the hole before fixing the concrete screws in place. Any debris left in the hole could cause the screw to clog or break when fitted

Resist the temptation to over tighten, as this can blow the theads out. Just wind down until the head clamps on the fixture & leave it there.
