Next Generation Engineers
19-04-2012
Here at Magnet Schultz Ltd we are passionate about inspiring the next generation of young engineers. We recognise the importance for the UK’s long-term economic prosperity. We also welcome opportunities to support our local community. As with many organisations, we accumulate backlog of stock that’s surplus to requirement. Instead of allowing this perfectly decent technology to gather dust on our shelves, we chose to offer it to local schools for possible use in their design and technology departments. These units are supported by datasheets and our advice on how to get the best results in their application.
Donating our surplus solenoid stock to local schools seems to have hit an accord. By having industrial-grade components to carry out their school projects, engineering students can better indulge their creativity and deliver higher standard projects. A bonus is that they get to design-in the kind of technologies and materials that they would be expected to use in industry.
One school that we have been working closely with is Sutton Grammar School for Boys who have benefitted greatly from a batch of latching and on/off miniature solenoids we provided. This school invests heavily to provide its pupils with the highest standard of expertise in the engineering field. Therefore, we were delighted to donate our stock, knowing that it would be put to good use.
Sutton School has a record of high achievement in its engineering faculty: many of the boys at the school do well in national competitions, but in 2011 one Sutton student took the crown of the Engineer of the Year. We are told that the school has entered the competition again this year with very good prospects of another win.
The headmaster at Sutton Grammar School personally wrote to us here at Magnet Schultz Ltd to thank us for our support; here’s what he said: “Thank you again for your support of our young engineers – you are helping to enthuse these young people about what they can achieve and hence encouraging them to think of careers in the fields of design and electronics.”
We are honoured to be able to support the next generation of young engineers and to spur on their passion for a crucial industry. We wish all the pupils entering the Engineer of the Year 2012 awards the very best of luck!
