Economic Growth in Albania
21-03-2011
Potential and Opportunities
The Albanian economy has had continuous growth in the range of 5 - 6 % for several years now. Numerous infrastructure projects have also made great strides in these years. The government will continue to focus on the infrastructure expansion in the near future.
Economically Albania is clearly orienting itself towards the EU. In the course of the economic growth and ever increasing traffic volume, the safety standards for motor vehicles will be raised and adapted to those of other EU countries.
Along these lines, all 14 main test stations in Albania will be completely renovated in the first half of 2010. SGS was awarded the total contract and MAHA supplies the required technology.
The SGS Group is a world leader in the field of INSPECTING, TESTING; VERIFICATION and CERTIFICATION, with “Automotive” being just one of 10 business fields. SGS activities range from certification, inspection, and outsourcing to risk management and technical consultation and education/training.
The SGS/ MAHA partnership created state-ofthe-art conditions for vehicle inspection; increasing safety on the road.
MAHA will supply a total of 34 test lanes for cars and trucks and 3 mobile test lanes. The training center Durres was the first step in the project with 2 car and truck test lanes. The “Train the Trainer“ program will start there in December.
Instruction and training of the personnel is essential in Albania due to the low educational standards there. Finding qualified personnel is a difficult task.
