Hydraulically lowered guard rails is one example of a special solution, e.g. the center guard rails of freeways. Normally speaking guard rails serve as a separation between driving lanes and a stable protection should vehicles make dangerous movements into oncoming traffic. In a raised state the elements function like a fixed guard rail. Lowered, a vehicle can easily drive over the element. Lowering and raising is done in about 1 minute respectively. Other applications to move heavy loads using this kind of special design are feasible.
