2 out of 189 Test Stations have started Service
The year 2007 went down as the year that MAHA received the largest order in its history. The order consists of supplying vehicle measurement, testing and lifting equipment for 189 stationary inspection stations and numerous mobile inspection facilities. These inspection stations will be spread across the entire country of Turkey. The company established specifically for this purpose, TÜVTURK (one of the three partners is the German TÜV SÜD) has received the mandate from the Turkish government to conduct vehicle inspection analogous with the German Main Inspection program. TÜVTURK acts hereby as the buyer of MAHA equipment.
Commissioning of the First Two Inspection Stations
On the 11th of January of this year, an event which was spectacular and of national interest took place in the eastern Anatolian university city of Elazig. The first TÜVTURK inspection station in Turkey started its inspections. At the same time, it initiated the new regulation requiring all Turkish vehicle owners to take part in regular vehicle inspections which in turn grants approval for further operation of the said vehicle. This procedure is also part of our well-known ”Main Inspection“ program. This station consisting of two test lanes now employs nine employees. 40 vehicles were registered for opening day. The first Turkish vehicle received a test seal, passing the test with flying colors. It was accompanied by big applause.
The second station, with a total of four test lanes, was opened on February 10, 2008 , in Trabzon, a city in northeast Turkey. It took on a national flair as the Turkish Minister of Traffic, Mr. Binali Yildirim, was present at the opening. The presence of this high-ranking visitor certainly underscores the importance that the Turkish government attaches to this countrywide project with relevant safety-increasing aspects. Other visitors included Dr. Thomas Aubel (TÜVTURK Director) and from MAHA as outfitter, Klaus Burger and Engelbert Keseberg (both Managing Directors). As MAHA dealer in Turkey, Mr. Yardimcilar was also present.
The role of the TÜVTURK Partnership
There are three partners in the TÜVTURK consortium: German TÜV SÜD and Dogus Grubu (General importer of well-known vehicle brands) as well as AKFEN (with profound knowledge about the Turkish automobile market), both Turkish. This consortium was chosen at the end of 2004 to conduct the project. A concession agreement was made with the Turkish government especially for this.
The German TÜV SÜD has been active in business on the Bosporus for the last 20 years with success and growth. German competency and quality and the ability to understand and appreciate the Turkish mentality were obviously the main reasons for success and contract awarding.
The TÜVTURK service consortium will invest 633 million EURO in the project, with 224 million EURO alone being allocated for service center set up including technical personal training. The remainder serves to acquire the concession.
TÜVTURK is obliged to invest in and set up a country-wide network of service centers which, based on the contract, are to be operated for a period of 20 years. Vehicle registration is constantly increasing in Turkey meaning that the future for the vehicle inspection market looks very promising.
This cooperation with TÜV SÜD – among others – shows MAHAs commitment to enter into multi-faceted partnerships in the core field of testing technology and to cement this as a company and business philosophy.
This sales success is the best kind of advertisement for MAHA
An order of this magnitude from such a renowned company as TÜV means not only a generous turnover increase for MAHA, but is an invaluable reference and building block for the future of the company. A customer such as TÜVTURK – dependent upon this project succeeding- needs to know that its partners provi
