New range of Eco friendly mats arrive on Mats4U

Eco-friendliness and sustainability is all the talk at the moment and so it is with great pleasure that Mats4U can bring you the Waterhog Eco range of matting. Waterhog Eco Elite is the first style of an Eco range that is set to expand and be made available on www.Mats4U.co.uk. So why are these mats considered Eco-friendly? First of all they are constructed from post consumer recycled materials. If you're unfamiliar with what that means exactly, it means they are made from products that have been used by the public before. The face fabric is made up from 100% PET plastic drinks bottles that would otherwise have gone into landfill. An 89 x 150cm (3x5 foot) mat is typically made from 60 half litre drinks bottles. The mat's backing is made from 15% used rubber tyres that would also have otherwise gone into landfill. The remaining is natural rubber from sustainable sources. By using recycled materials this also saves on the resources and energy that would otherwise have been used to make these materials that are necessary for the construction of a mat. The recycled symbol is displayed on the mat to confirm the mat's credentials. The mats are guaranteed to perform for at least 5 years in areas that have a lot of foot fall, for example schools and public buildings. Clearly they are extremely durable mats and as such there is no need to have them replaced as often as other mats that are available on the market. The mats themselves are therefore less prone to end up in landfill so often. The bi-level construction has an upper surface that wipes and scrapes footwear, forcing the dirt and moisture to fall to a lower level in the mat where it remains until cleaned away. With less dirt transferred into the building, costs are saved on the associated cleaning. There is also a reduced need for cleaning chemicals which can be damaging to the environment.
