The Foundation of Export 2015 – The Cole Commission

Graham Cole, the executive chairman of Agusta Westland was asked by Ed Ball’s and the Labour party to chair a complete review of what the UK needs to put in place with international trade support. The final report will be published in June, after the general election to be implemented by the new government. Graham visited the Sheffield Chamber and SYITC with Ashley Shackleton of the BCC to get an insight into what businesses need if we are to reach the £ 1 tn of exports by 2020. The interim report was published in April ahead of the visit to SYITC. The discussion was represented by 5 Yorkshire Chambers of Commerce and 5 businesses represented by: Micon Components Ltd; Sizer Ltd; 5-1-2 (Sheffield) Ltd; Pryor Marking Technology Ltd and Sheffield Forgemasters Ltd. and the University of Sheffield. Graham Cole said after the event: ‘It was really helpful to be able to talk to the Chambers and to real companies. I left encouraged with the relevance of the Commission’s report and determined to drive through the changes we have proposed’.
