The sliding basement door was designed in a bi- parting configuration with the centre glass doors meeting on the same track in the middle of the opening. The aluminium frames of the basement door were finished in a light grey powder coat to match the light interior design palette of both the interior space and the external rendering. With floor to ceiling glass and minimal sight lines to the sliding basement doors, the outdoor patio becomes part of the interior seamlessly connecting the internal and external spaces across the flush threshold track. A 95mm interlock is found in the middle of the door opening thanks to the architect and client’s commitment to symmetry. Where bi-parting sliding glass doors like this meet in the middle on the same track you get a slightly larger vertical interlock. A continuous sightline of 21mm at this centre connection is possible if the sliding doors are sliding on staggered track systems. The type 2 manual lock was used on this project to create a secure sliding basement door to the home in Chelsea. Beyond the sliding basement doors, you find a large open plan kitchen diner as well as a cleverly designed play area for the children.
