What is hot rolling

Hot rolling is the process of turning the aluminium, copper, or steel into usable products for various applications. For instance, it could be the process of forming aluminium rod.

This is achieved by heating the material at extreme temperatures. They are then passed through rolling mills forming them into various shapes and thicknesses based on their application.

Hot rolling bearing grease

To ensure that the forming machines continue to operate effectively, bearing greases are used in the process to lubricate the bearings and help in the metal forming process.

These are specially designed to work at extreme temperatures and offer the very lubrication for bearings.

The Challenge:

Solidal were experiencing frequent production interruptions within their Continuous Properzi Hot Rolling machine. The company were having to apply a competitor’s product every 2 days due to insufficient grease performance at higher temperatures.

This contributed to continued and unnecessary maintenance, resulting in production downtime and ultimately lost profits.

The Solution: 

To meet this challenge, we recommended our high-performance MOLYSLIP ARVINA MX2, to the company as an alternative and the results were outstanding! 

After initial testing and approval, our grease was introduced with Arvina MX2, the hot rolling machine only needs to be re-lubricated every 6 days against the previous 2 days.

With our product, Solidal gained a full 4 days of additional uninterrupted production, improving efficiency within their machine by 200%.

MX2 is suitable for use in ball and roller bearings operating in a variety of temperatures and conditions – high-temperature applications can run up to 140°C, high-load situations and manage extreme levels of water ingress.
