Welcome to our Motion News October issue, 2007. We are very proud to announce that Motion Control Products Ltd has been appointed as the UK distributor for ABB Servo drive range, a global engineering company in power and automation technologies.
The ACSM1 Drive Low Voltage AC Drives range is a high performance, extremely competitive machinery drive used to control induction, synchronous and asynchronous servo and high torque motors with various feedback devices.
Consisting of three main parts- power unit, control unit and memory unit, this type of machinery drive provides high performance speed, torque and motion control for demanding machines. The compact hardware and programming flexibility ensure the optimum solution.
AC drive technology used on the drive can extend the motor speed range from zero to high above the rated speed, increasing the productivity of the driven process. When low capacity is enough, the drive reduces the machine speed and saves energy. Furthermore, servo-like performance can be achieved with DTC (Direct Torque Control) technology, while standard AC drive technology offers many benefits over servo drives.
Highlights
Extremely competitive price in the market: e.g. ACSM1 drive 22KW version just £1,508
Four compact frame sizes, power range from 0.75kW (1Hp) to 45 kW (60Hp) (380V to 480V / 2.5A to 90A)
Wide range of feedback interfaces: TTL Encoder, Resolver, Sin/Cos, Endat, Hiperface, SSI
Memory unit for easy drive management
Integrated Safe Torque Off (STO) function as standard
Two control variants:
Speed and torque control
Motion control
New frame size covering the power range up to 110KW will be launched early January 2008
Application
The ACSM1 drive series provides speed control for diverse applications from spa bath motors to treadmill motors, as well as high precision applications such as positioning and synchronization systems. It is also ideal for other industrial applications like printing, material handling, packaging and textile etc.
One application, previously almost exclusive to servo drives, is that AC drives are now taking on registration. An example is ensuring that a rotary knife cuts on the edge of a label and not in the middle.
