Nestlé Waters bottles its pure water product, Buxton Natural Mineral Water, at its Waterswallows plant in Buxton itself. As part of recent expansion plans a brand new £35m bottling and warehousing plant has been constructed.
Modern building techniques have been used with a focus on constructing an environmentally friendly building that fitted in to the local landscape, local Derbyshire Dry Stone has been used for the walls. Even with the use of some traditional materials the project aims to achieve BREEAM
Excellent status by minimising the environmental impact of the building, keeping running costs to a minimum and carefully planning the sites transport and ecology.
In addition to heat recovery and sustainable rainwater drainage systems the area has benefited from the introduction of a butterfly meadow. In keeping with the environmental considerations around the site Naylor Thermachem drainage has been used under the bottling plant to handle chemicals used in CIP process on site. Naylor Thermachem pipes drain cleaning chemicals to a waste treatment plant ensuring there is no leaks in to the surrounding ground. In addition to providing protection against chemicals Naylor Thermachem pipes are themselves the most
environmentally friendly drainage material available – been manufactured from natural materials and having the least embodied CO2 of all drainage materials.
