Birmingham, April 13, 2012 – In the warehousing and logistics industry, the right equipment is vitally important. Using machinery that enhances efficiency, reliability and speed is a must, as is strict adherence to safety regulations. Taking all this into consideration, the Institute of Transport Management is delighted to announce the presentation of its “UK Forklift Manufacturer 2012” award to Nissan Forklift, for its outstanding contribution to the materials handling sector.
Nissan is strongly associated with high quality automotive and commercial vehicle manufacture. However, within the transport industry, the company also enjoys an excellent global reputation for it forklifts. It first began their production in 1957, building on the expertise gained from the production of general automobiles. Supported by strong sales since its establishment, the Nissan Forklift division is now a formidable presence worldwide, with production bases in Spain, Sweden, Japan, and the United States and sales networks in more than 75 countries.
Despite its international reach, Nissan Forklift places a strong emphasis on representation, component sourcing and service provision at local level to better meet the particular needs of clients in each area. Committed to customer satisfaction, it has designed forklifts to meet a diverse range of customer requirements – no cookie cutter manufacturing here. Each Nissan Forklift factory has its own engineering department, which cooperates closely with the development centre in Japan. This approach combines the advantages of regional orientation with the impressive technological knowledge available within the Nissan Motor Company and has resulted in some great innovations. These include safety features such as an outer-chain wide-view mast and operational features like single-lever operations and fuzzy logic control of battery vehicles.
And Nissan Forklift pays more than just lip service to continual development. For example, last year saw the introduction of the completely newly designed RG Series Reach truck range. During the development process, many truck operators and logistic managers were interviewed, while scientific studies regarding truck ergonomics and repetitive strain injuries were undertaken. This information was married to Nissan’s know-how, and the new RG Series was born.
Customer-centric, it offers industry-leading operator comfort and safety, with its hands-free direction control and the optimal placement of the LCD display and keyboard. The operator compartment is multi-adjustable, while the specially shaped seat backrest offers an easy switch between looking left and right. Other features include the slide down and tilt back function, which supports the operator while working at high lifting heights, a unique mini steering wheel in the armrest and an ergonomically designed joystick that offers up to nine different mast related functions.
It is also a performance giant. The Nissan Forklift AC TECH controller offers a productive, reliable and cost-effective truck operation. With this advanced technology, all options are open, including automatic horizontal fork leveling, sideshift centering, load weight indication and double deep storage. The unique Level Assistance System or Level Selector helps the operator to go to preset lifting heights in the racking by the push of a button. The maneuverability of the truck in small aisles is also amongst markets best, as is its efficiency – it has driving speeds up to 14.5 km/h and lift speeds of up to 700 mm/s.
According to the ITM:
“Nissan Forklift has a fine and deserved reputation for excellence and its extensive range of vehicles for the warehousing and logistics sector is second to none. As well as this, its product lines that are backed up with an excellent spare parts and service system, so customers really do receive a lifetime of quality performance. We at the Institute are delighted to present the award for ‘UK Forklift Manufacturer 2012’ to Nissan Forklift and look forward to witnessing the further successes of the company over the coming years.”
