Niftylift Women in Engineering 2021
19-11-2021
On Wednesday the 17th of November 2021, we held our 5th annual ‘Women in Engineering' day at our headquarters in Shenley Wood, Milton Keynes.
Aimed at Year 9, 10 and 11 female students from our local community, more than 120 students and teachers attended the event (our biggest to date!), from schools such as Watling Academy, Oakgrove, Thornton College, Bridge Academy, Denbigh, Ousedale, MK Academy, Shenley Brook End and Radcliffe.
The event offered the girls a unique opportunity to learn about the different career paths available within the field of engineering and the practical application of different Engineering specialisms within our company.
The day included tours of the factory, production assembly tasks, control and hydraulic systems demonstrations, a CAD workshop where the girls got to design an e-stop using Creo and discussions with our female staff about their routes into their chosen engineering careers.
The event was a great success and feedback from the students and teachers has been very positive with the girls' favourite activity being the CAD e-stop design activity!
Marie Bradburn, a Milton Keynes councillor who also visited us on the day commented:
"Thank you so much for the invite. Truly a wonderful experience!"
Through events like this Women in Engineering Day, we are helping schools to promote STEM subjects to more than just the obvious candidates. By championing the creative aspects of the discipline, by enthusing and inspiring young females, we hope to encourage a new generation of female engineers to take their place in an exciting, vibrant and growing industry – ideally working at Niftylift!
If you’re at a school and would like to get involved with any of our schools' programs, please send an email to marketing@niftylift.com.
