Niftylift's 2018 Women in Engineering Event
27-11-2018
On Thursday the 15th of November 2018, Niftylift held a ‘Women in Engineering' event at its headquarters in Shenley Wood, Milton Keynes.
Aimed at Year 9, 10 and 11 female students from Niftylift's local community, more than 50 students and teachers attended the event, from schools such as Radcliffe, Denbigh, Bridge Academy, Oakgrove and Stantonbury International.
The event offered the girls a unique opportunity to learn about the different career paths available within the field of engineering while highlighting the fundamental role engineers play in our society.
The afternoon included tours of Niftylift's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, engineering-themed activities as well as talks from Niftylift’s female staff members, as they described their roles at Niftylift.
The event was a great success and feedback from the students and teachers was very positive, here are just a few:
Karen Malone of Stantonbury International School
"I’d like to thank you and your team and also apologise for the late arrival and early departure. I will get feedback from the participating students, but know from conversations that the hydraulics exercise was very well received and enthused them."
Laura Cain of Radcliffe School
"Thank you for today it was great fun. The students really enjoyed themselves. I loved the VR!"
...and on LinkedIn
"Fantastic afternoon at Niftylift at their women in engineering event. Students came away buzzing about the roles available. A brilliant example that careers are open to both genders. Well done Karl Digby brilliant event #engineers #stem"
Emma Barnett-Vincent of Oakgrove
"Thank you for today, the girls have just got back and feedback is super!"
Mrs Davies-Fairclough of Denbigh
"Thank you for hosting the ‘Women in Engineering day’. The students all had an insightful day and came away enthused!"
Through events like this Women in Engineering Day, we are helping schools to promote STEM subjects to more than just the obvious candidates. By championing the creative aspects of the discipline, by enthusing and inspiring young females, we hope to encourage a new generation of female engineers to take their place in an exciting, vibrant and growing industry – ideally working at Niftylift!
