The Ultimate Guide to Shipping Labels

The Ultimate Guide to Shipping Labels

What is a Shipping Label?

A shipping label displays important information for a courier to transport a package from its starting destination, typically a warehouse to its final destination; in the hands of customers. Whilst this process may appear straightforward; it’s vital the shipping label includes all the key information such as sender and recipient information, tracking number, and barcode which serves as the primary tracking identifier.

The tracking number should match the barcode so customers can track their package through the courier’s site. Each of these elements plays a pivotal role in ensuring the package accurately reaches its intended destination, thereby streamlining the delivery process from the outset to completion.

How do Shipping Labels work?

A shipping label displays the information to direct packages to the correct destinations, track them throughout each stage, and ensure the correct service is provided. Here at Northern Label Systems Limited, we stock specific shipping labels for couriers such as Royal Mail, DPD, Parcel Force, DHL, and more. Different couriers have varying specifications as to the size of their shipping labels, and they must be clear and easy to read for both humans and machines.

Which couriers do we provide Shipping Labels for?

Royal Mail Shipping Labels & Parcelforce Shipping Labels: Our Royal Mail shipping labels and Parcelforce shipping labels are 102mm x 152mm, and are supplied in several formats; 250 and 475 per roll for small desktop label printers, 1,000 per roll for larger label printers and also in an easy-to-use fan folded format which can be used in both small and large printers.

DPD Shipping Labels: Our DPD shipping labels are 102mm x 102mm, and are supplied in three formats; 500 per roll for small desktop label printers, 1,000 per roll for larger label printers and also in easy-to-use fan folded format which can be used in both small and large printers.

How to put a Shipping Label on a package?

The shipping label should be on one side of your package and should really be at the top especially if there is a ‘This Way Up’ label on the package and should be sized so that it fits entirely on that side. You must put a shipping label on the package without it being folded over the edges or parts of the label being on the sides, as important information might not be seen, or it might prevent it from being scanned.
