When Shell Lubricants Stanlow in the UK had to replace their ageing RIS (Rochester Instruments) process alarm system with IEC61508 SIL certified technology, they chose Omniflex to provide the replacement solution. Keeping a manufacturing process safe is a critical factor in running a successful process plant. Ageing plants can put people and the environment at great risk when relying on old alarm systems that don’t meet the current safety requirements, or can no longer be maintained. Shell Lubricants had to replace their ageing RIS AN5100 alarm system that contained 560 process alarms, but were very concerned about plant downtime, as replacing such systems can be costly, mainly due to the plant downtime incurred during system change-over.
