The Maxiflex 8 Channel HART NIM (Network interface Module) is a plug in module for the Maxiflex Data Acquisition and Process Automation system. The NIM acts as a permanent host interface device (primary master or secondary master) on up to eight HART networks.
The NIM accesses data in a unique way:
Data is read continuously and not scanned, so you get real-time values for process control
The NIM reads more than one variable from the device giving access to more data
Values are accessed digitally so that there is no loss of resolution when the signal is converted to an analog representation.
The NIM is self-configuring for ease of use. Once powered up, the NIM searches for HART devices on each of its 8 HART interfaces and builds an inventory of the devices found.
The NIM supports HART single channel mode and Multi-drop mode. Single channel mode is used for acquiring data from the individual HART loops and making the data available to SCADA, DCS, PLCS and data-logging systems, whilst multi-drop mode supports up to 15 HART devices per channel (8 off Hart channels x 15 HART devices = 120 HART devices on a single module) providing a high density small footprint solution for SCADA, DCS, PLC and data logging systems.
Note: The HART protocol is a comprehensive, open communications standard, for configuring and communicating with Smart field devices in industrial process applications. HART Data Acquisition is an important aspect of plant monitoring allowing existing Analogue loop philosophy to co-exist with data networks using the same cable.
