Omniflex renown for innovation has released another "outside the box" innovative development with a range of Signal Isolators, the Omniterm LZ series with integrated surge protection. Designed specifically for the Signal Conditioning Market where isolation and surge protection are required together. Typically high risk areas that are vulnerable to surges need both isolation and surge protection which requires two devices fitted to the field loop - the new LZ series combines both functions with in a single 22.5mm wide package. There are three variants of the LZ series: LZI - Model C2474A LZI (Single Analogue Channel) LZD - Model C2475A LZD (Dual Analogue Channel) LZB - Model C2476A LZB (Dual input contact field interface) The features include: Fully surge protected inputs 1500Vac Isolation Input/Output IEC61508 SIL1 Compliant No Field Calibration necessary Wide operating temperature range Current Loop Isolation and Surge Protection The OMNITERM LZI and LZD are current loop interface modules designed to interface field mounted transmitters in remote applications where signal isolation and surge protection is required Applications include interfacing for RTU's, PLC's etc. The LZI is a single channel device with additional flexibility and support for both 2-wire and 4-wire 4-20mA transmitters. The LZD is a dual channel device for increased packing density, suitable for multiple 2-wire transmitters. The Omniterm LZI and LZD both include the following features: A fully specified 10kA 8/20µSec Nominal surge arrestor to prevent electrical surges induced on the field wiring from damaging sensitive equipment in the panel 1500Vac isolation from input to output so that ground loops cannot occur, that might otherwise affect instrument accuracy. A stable 24Vdc field power supply to power two-wire transmitters from lower voltage sources such as 12V battery systems without compromising available loop voltage or loop resistance. A precision 250 ohm resistor allowing 4-20mA to be converted conveniently into 1-5V signals for RTU's and PLC's. Saving Cost and Ease of Use for DCS and PLC front ends Combining the surge arrestor, isolator and 250 ohm termination into a single module, saves significant cost, engineering time and panel space in monitoring applications. These surge arrestors/ isolator combos simplify RTU and field interface panel design. Functional Safety Rated for SIL 1 Application Reliability figures in accordance with IEC61508 (SIL1) are available to allow inclusion of these devices in safety systems. These modules utilize advanced electronic techniques to achieve high accuracy and low power consumption with zero field calibration, saving you installation and commissioning time. Contact Input Isolation and Surge Protection The OMNITERM LZB is a dual input field contact interface module designed to protect RTU and PLC installations from external factors such as lightning surges, ground loops and wiring faults. This module includes a fully specified surge arrestor and a high side output driver allowing you to combine all these functions into a single module. Power a Two Wire Transmitter in the field even if you only have 12V Supply! Omniflex has made clever use of its power supply technology to provide a stable internal 24V field supply to power a two wire transmitter even if main system is powered from a 12V supply as happens with many radio type remote terminal unit applications.
