Pies are a classic British staple, which is why between the 6th and the 12th March we have British Pie week, a week dedicated to celebrating the great British pie. Since 2007 we have celebrated the great pie with a dedicated week. Originally, a pie’s pastry shell was designed to be used as a baking dish, storage container, or a way to serve the filling. Records suggest that the Romans would use meats, oysters, mussels and fish as the filling and a mixture of flour, oil and water to keep it all in place. The pastry on these creations was often tough and inedible and was designed to be thrown away. We’ve come a long way with our pie making!
With around 75% of people enjoying a pie or two at least once a month, it really is time to consider the addition of pie to your menu, and who better to help you with your pie supplies than us at Pattersons Catering Supplies.
Choose Falcon Enamelware
Falcon Enamelware is a classic choice for cooking and serving pies. This well-known oven to tableware has been an icon of British home life since the 1920’s; it is both stylish and retro. Offering an alternative to porcelain crockery, enamelware by Falcon is made from porcelain fussed onto heavy-gauge steel. This gives Falcon Enamelware many admirable qualities – durability, smoothness and chemical-resistance. Falcon pieces are instantly recognisable due to their ice white base with their distinctive blue rim. But as well as their timeless elegance, Falcon Enamelware has enduring strength and cannot burn, which is why this range of enamelled dishes is so popular with the catering trade. In fact, if you were to drop these pie dishes when removing them from the oven, they may chip but they won’t break! Dishwasher-safe and oven-safe up to 270°C/ 530°F, Falcon enamelware can also be used on gas and electric hobs.
