Alternatives to Single-Use Plastics
In England alone, we use over 2.7 billion items of single-use plastic a year, but only 10% of these are recycled. It’s important to be aware of the options we have for many of the products we use in our daily lives so we can lessen our impact on the environment.
So, what alternatives are there to single-use plastics?
Paper
Paper is one of the oldest materials used for food packaging. As it can be recycled again and again, it is a great alternative to single-use plastics. Paper can be produced in many different forms, including cups, plates, straws, bags, and various packaging.
Glass
Not only can glass be reused, but it can also be repurposed. Have an old glass jar that you don’t know what to do with? Pop a tea light in there, and you have yourself a makeshift candle. You could also get fancy and turn them into drinking glasses that you can use over and over again.
Metal
Metals like stainless steel can replace many single-use plastic items. They are easy to clean, durable, and can be used more than once. Metal can be a great alternative for many products, such as straws, cutlery, cups, storage containers, and bottles.
Wood
Wood is a renewable resource and, when sourced from sustainable sources, can be a great alternative to many plastic products, such as cutlery, kitchen utensils, containers and storage, and other crockery.
This is just the start for alternative materials for single-use plastics and we can’t wait to see how this evolves in the future.
Here at Rayda, we make an effort to use sustainable products and recycle any unused plastic materials when creating our products. For any general plastic enquiries, contact us today, and we will be more than happy to help.
