Creative Ways to Reuse Plastic Bottles For Schools
Recycling is a hot topic around the world although it may have you thinking only of recycling boxes and trying not to miss the weekly Council pick-up, there are many creative ways that recycling can be encouraged too. After using plastic bottles and other plastic products, we just throw them away, but there are many great products you can repurpose unwanted/used plastic into that you may not have ever thought of before.
If you have a young family, many of these ideas can also be used as a brilliant way to introduce the ideas of recycling and sustainability to your children, and getting schools involved in these initiatives is a great way to get kids involved.
Bird Feeder – Using an old bottle, some string, scissors, and some bird seed, you can create a bird feeder that can be used all year round.
Piggy Bank – Old plastic bottles can be turned into a piggy bank by turning the old bottle on its side, cutting an opening, and adding bottle caps to help it stand. You can also get creative with this and decorate it to look like a pig.
Watering containers – Keeping your plants hydrated whilst you’re away on holiday can be a challenge, but by using an old plastic bottle you can ensure they are watered. Simply cut the bottom off an old plastic bottle and removed the cap and replace it with a funnel or tiny hole, this can then be turned upside down and filled with water to slowly drip-feed water to the plants whilst you’re away.
Flower pots – By cutting the end of an old bottle off, you can create small plant pots and can use paints or materials to decorate them to suit their setting.
Bowling – You can create your very own set of bowling pins by collecting and reusing old plastic bottles. You can decorate them how you like and fill them with sand or small stones to add weight to them.
Watering can – Old plastic bottles can be turned into watering cans by poking holes in the bottle cap to lessen the flow of water when pouring, and filling the bottle up with water. You could also pierce more than one hole in the bottle cap and a few around the top of the bottle too, to create a sort of sprinkler effect when pouring.
Decoration – Old plastic bottles can be used to create a range of decorations, you can cut shapes from the bottle to create Christmas tree ornaments, use bottle caps to create a mosaic, or even come up with some of your own creative ways to make decorations.
