EUROCELL ANNOUNCES RECORD RECYCLING FOR PVC-U

Eurocell is the UK’s leading manufacturer, distributor and recycler of PVC-U windows, doors and conservatories. Recently they have announced the processing of a record number of post-consumer recycling of PVC-U in 2018/19, in excess of 1.2 million frames. Peaking at the equivalent of 28,000 post-consumer frames a week during a period. The company passed a huge landmark at their Midlands plant, producing over 12,500 tonnes of products made from recycled material for the first ever time. This was possible thanks to the company having invested £10m in increasing its recycling facilities and capabilities over the last decade and rebranding the previous Ilkeston-based recycling operation from Merritt Plastics to Eurocell Recycle. The plant employs 110 people and boasts 60,000 sq.ft of recycling facilities, a much needed upgrade for the company – who are aiming to make the facility the largest of its kind in the UK. The entire lifespan of the product can be made more sustainable upon recycling the windows. Recycled PVC-U can have a lifespan of up to 350 years. Chris Coxon, Head of Marketing at Eurocell, said: “It is a testament to our commitment to improving the sustainability of PVC-U that we have been able to achieve record levels of recycling in 2018. Over the past decade we have invested heavily to improve sustainability, and this is now enabling us to continue to achieve and surpass the recycling objectives that we set for the business.” “With the UK starting to run out of landfill space and 32% of landfill coming from the construction sector, we are proud of the part we are playing in helping to improve the sector’s sustainability record.” In 2019, the company aims to process even more post-consumer profiles and see an even bigger increase on last year’s figures by shredding, granulising, and micronizing PVC-U. Coxon continued to say that the new recycling plant has enabled the company to make a real impact – after owning the facility for almost a decade at Merrit Plastics, he described how the rebrand will allow Eurocell to expand further whilst remaining consistent with their current brand. The Eurocell spokesman detailed how the company are looking forward to their future in recycling and aim to continue carrying out positive work in the industry. When large brands like Eurocell make such notable developments in the improvement of plastic sustainability, it is hoped other companies will follow suit and make a plastic world more environmentally friendly for the years to come.
