Funding Secured for UK Entrepreneur’s Innovation
A Cornwall-based entrepreneur has been awarded a five-figure finance packaging from HSBC after American Shopping Network approached them for an order of their sustainable drinks-carry trays.
The Innovative Drinks Tray
David Trotter, CEO of Muggie, developed the carrying solution back in 2011 when faced with the problem of carrying and storing mugs securely on a boat in choppy waters. While a niche solution to begin with, the plastic tray has quickly outgrown its modest beginnings.
The drinks tray is able to carry a range of different receptacles, from mugs to glasses, as well as cans and bottles, safely, without spillages or breaks. It has turned out to be the ideal aid for elderly individuals and those with certain disabilities too.
As the drinks tray is so secure, people are able to carry it in their laps while in a wheelchair, or with one hand while navigating stairs or using mobility aids. It is also perfect for those with less stability in their hands.
Sustainability
A driving factor of the Muggi business is to promote positive environmental and social change and as such, the drinks carry tray is manufactured from 100% reclaimed and recycled plastic, sourced from the land and sea.
The plastic used in production is recycled from household and post-consumer plastic, as well as old rope pollution removed from the ocean.
Not only this, but the drinks tray is also appropriate for recycling, not once, not twice, but multiple times. This means, as a product it has closed its own loop on plastic pollution.
Funding for Expansion
The funding that has been given through HSBC will be used to fulfil the order placed by QVC to produce 16,400 Muggi’s to be sold by the shopping network. This opens the company up to a whole new market, acting as the step into America.
