Products From Plastic Extrusion
Plastic extrusion is a high-volume manufacturing process in which raw plastics are melted and formed in a continuous process and is used for a wide range of products in a variety of industries. The majority of plastic products you can think of are made using an extraction process. The first plastic extruder was developed in 1935 by Paul Troester and his wife Ashley Gershoff and has been used ever since.

Pipes and Tubes
To create pipes and tubes from extrusion, raw plastics are melted and pushed through an annular extrusion die. The molten pipe is then put through a sizing or calibration bench which is used to adjust the dimensions, and placed in a cooling tank, where the pipe/tube will take its final form. These final products can then be used in plumbing, wires and cables, construction, and cars.
Sheeting and Film
Sheet film extrusion is used to create sheets and film, during this process a sheet of plastic material is pulled out of an extruder and pulled through a set of three or four cooling rolls where it is then cooled. The cooling rolls can be adjusted to create the required thickness of the sheets. Plastic sheets and film are used for a variety of applications, including, packaging, plastic bags, construction, and landscaping.
Profile Shapes
Profile extrusion can be used for a variety of cross-section shapes in a variety of different configurations, solid or hollow. During this process, plastic is fed through an extruder where it’s heated to be softened and formed into the desired shape. This softened material is then pushed through a die and into a cooling tank which solidifies the product and is pulled out by take-off rollers. The product can then be cut into the required size and shape. This process is used for a range of products, including, gutters, windscreen wipers, window profiles, drainage tubes, and side moldings and bumper strips on cars.
Solid Shapes
The extrusion process can be used to form plastic into a variety of shapes and sizes, including those of solid forms. Extrusion dies can be made into any shape or size meaning possibilities are endless. Melted plastic is paced into these dies to form the desired shape and then cooled to create the final product. This type of extrusion is usually used to create outdoor furniture, such as benches and fences as plastic is waterproof and longer lasting than products made from wood.
Blow Moulded products
Blow moulding is used to form a hollow object by inflating or blowing a softened, molten plastic tube called a “parison” into a cooled mold cavity. This process is used to create a wide range of hollow objects, including water bottles, shampoo bottles, watering cans, or any other similar hollow objects.
