Ban on R410A Refrigerant
Currently domestic and commercial freezers, multipack refrigeration systems, new cars, and portable AC units will be restricted from using refrigerants with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) higher than 150. This means R410A is out! 🚫❌
For single split systems using less than 3kg of refrigerant, the ban will apply to gases with a GWP of more than 750, which includes R410A but not R32 and similar alternatives. 🌍⚠️
While there are no current plans to ban R410A in statutory refrigeration equipment, the approach will involve reducing the availability of the gas through a quota system. 📉🔧 Leading chiller and heat pump manufacturers are already recycling R410A. Initially, prices surged in anticipation of the ban, but they've recently dropped due to an oversupply. It’s now expected that R410A will remain available until at least 2036. 📉🔄
Despite the shift, R410A remains a highly efficient refrigerant, offering up to 33% more Coefficient of Performance (COP) compared to natural refrigerants. 🌟💧
