Auto Pallet De-Stacking System
Sapcote Engineering was approached by a worldwide giant in the snack food production industry, known for having some of the biggest processing plants in the UK. The task at hand was the design, manufacture and installation of an automated pallet de-stacking system to improve productivity at one of our client’s warehouse facilities.
With the client identifying the existing method of de-stacking pallets as a repetitive, time consuming and sometimes unsafe process, we worked hard to ensure we could make the process as efficient as possible whilst also prioritising operator safety. The system we designed consisted of a hydraulic de-stacker unit, seven chain conveyors (including a 90-degree transfer conveyor) and infeed and outfeed ramps for easy loading/offloading. Complete with a control panel and mesh perimeter fencing all around with interlocked doors for safety during operation and complete access when carrying out maintenance work.
The de-stacker unit uses robust hydraulics to lift the stack of pallets, allowing the lowering unit to release the bottom pallet onto the conveyor and through to the exit. Infeed guides were fitted to prevent mis-stacked pallets from entering the system and causing jams. All infeed chain conveyors were also fitted with switches to allow the pallet transfer direction to be reversed, allowing the operator to recall a pallet stack that has already entered the system.
