Google’s Search Generative Experience update, which is coming to a screen VERY near you in 2024 could be the biggest one ever.
There are two reasons why this could be the case. The first is the removal of the People Also Ask section (and possibly the Featured Snippet), this causing some to predict that some sites could lose 40% of their traffic, something that my research has disproved. We will have to wait until it happens to know who is right.
The second change is, I believe, much more important: Google altering the percentage of ‘Ranking Points’, less being allocated to the Backlink, and more (perhaps MUCH more) to the quality of the content.
And here, I don’t just mean the words, content being measured on whether it is really helpful and People Centric. I think that this will mean that the inclusion of video will be more important, and that the structure of the page will be looked at even more closely.
Content is also going to be tested in a relatively new way, in that does it (where applicable) talk about the ‘experience’ of the writer, of the journey to a point of view, or of using a particular product. Why are Google bringing in this extra E to its EAT, some say it is the first attempt to control the use of AI created content as AI will find it difficult to talk about ‘experience’ in a meaningful way.
Whatever, the goal of obtaining (and keeping) rankings on Google is going to have to be approached differently in 2024, and this is why I have an exciting new plan for 2024….
More on that later.
I have created a video of my research and the changes I see coming, the link being in the comments below. Now this is quite long as the subject is complicated and is not, I would be the first to admit the best video ever, but for now it could provide you with some interesting insights and if you seek clarity on any of the points, I would be happy to help.
