SIPCO have won best project constructed outside the UK award for the Nissen Hut based in the Antarctic.
After being approached by the British Antarctic Survey, SIPCO were commissioned to design and manufacture a replacement Nissen Hut to stand on the exact spot were the initial building had stood over 50 years ago.
Pete Barr, Managing Director of SIPCO says “This project was very interesting and involved 150mm SIPs cut to 250mm strips and fitted to curved frames, shipped to the Antarctic. SIPs were used for the roof, internal partitions and gable ends.”
Barr continues “We are very pleased to win this award especially as this was a particularly challenging project but it is a great example of this innovative technology and further proves the adaptability of SIP Construction.”
The Awards are a unique opportunity to showcase outstanding work to an audience of leading industry professionals and to raise awareness of great engineering with the public. A Structural Award is an internationally recognised symbol of excellence, and even being shortlisted marks out a project as cutting edge.
