Project 2 AMEY A-78 Largs sea defence repairs & RNLI Largs slipway - Client W & I Gilbert
The trunk road A-78 suffered storm damage and required rebuilding to stop further errosion, we manufactured these units to the clients design and their specific project profile to turn the waves back away from the road. The units were delivered during a road closure at night to restrict the trafic disturbance when the crane was set up to install the units. These units were 9 tonnes in weight and 2.7 meters high, and had to be installed at low tide.
The slip refurb was designed to be an overlay of the existing slipway which was tired, the slip had to be maintained in a working state while the works were carried out. To enhance this criteria the slip has been done in 2 halfs, this has worked well with the edge beams being installed and fixed to the old structure, slabs were laid beyond the low tide line to carry the boat carrier out into the sea to launch the lifeboat.
