Understanding Diaphragm Pumps
Diaphragm Pumps are positive displacement pumps that make use of a combination technique of a reciprocating action of a rubber, thermoplastic or Teflon diaphragm and apt suitable valve on either side of the diaphragm in order to pump a fluid.
Some of the various kinds are aero pump, double diaphragm pump, elastomeric diaphragm, diaphragm water pump and even more.
Diaphragm pumps offer a hermetic seal between the compression chambers and drive mechanism that allows the pump to compress, transfer, and evacuate the medium without the presence of any lubricant.
There are three main kinds of diaphragm pumps:
- The first kind of pump is the pump in which the diaphragm is sealed with one side in the fluid to be pumped, and the other side is sealed in air or hydraulic fluid.
- The second kinds of pumps are the ones employing volumetric positive displacement where the prime mover of the diaphragm is electro-mechanical, working through a crank or geared motor drive, or that with a lever or handle.
- The third kind of pump is the pump that employs one or more unsealed diaphragm with the fluid that needs to be pumped on both the sides. The diaphragm(s) again are flexed that cause the volume to change.
