The Energy Problem of Aerobic WWTP in the Meat Sector
The optimization of energy costs in WWTPs is a pending issue in the field of wastewater treatment and accounts for more than 60% of operational costs, being today one of the biggest concerns of the sector at a global level.
In the meat sector the control is even more difficult mainly because of the complexity of the purification process. At present the most common biological control in these WWTPs is based on a simple methodology: The oxygen dissolved in the biological reactor is measured and compared with preselected fixed values. If the value measured is lower than the fixed one the blower is switched on for a preset time, and if not, the blower switches off for a preset time.
