A brilliant service from Surface Scan. Thank you. TLDR Robust, accurate 3D Printing and quick delivery. Recommended. This was my very first experience of 3D Printing and I am absolutely delighted with the results. I recently used TinkerCAD to design keycaps/covers for my door locks and took the next step: to get a real product made. The Surface Scan web site made it clear and easy to start. I was able to upload my TinkerCAD design (STL file) to the Surface Scan site. From here, I was able to get a costing. The costs are reasonable and I was pleased to be able to tailor the materials used (for me, it was to use white material for the keycaps inside the house and black for the ones outside ... I didn't realise that I would be able to tailor the materials, so this is an example of Surface Scan exceeding my expectations). Then, I entered my address and payment details and hit the button to place the order. At this point, I wasn't sure how long it would take to arrive and the quality. My honest expectation was that it might take a while to arrive and I may or may not be able to actually use the product (or they might fall apart). No problem because it was more a matter of fun (and the excitement of actually designing and building a real physical product). Well, a couple of days later I received a package in the post and I'd forgotten about the 3D printing order, so I was a little confused as to what I'd received. When I opened the package and saw the keycaps I massive smile broke out on my face and I rushed to fit the key caps and show my wife. Truly, I was like a kid at Christmas. I've shared pictures of the results showing the lock with and without the new keycaps. The black keycaps are for outside and the white for inside. Please see "before/ after or with/without" photos ... don't they look great?! Sorry for the lengthy review, but I feel that it is important to share my positive experience with Surface Scan and to emphasise how easy and accessible it is for a novice, amateur designer to get a real product built for a reasonable price. 3D Printing democratises production. I now look forward to finding excuses to design and build other 3D objects in the future!
