Choosing Your Dimmer Switch
Choosing your Dimmer Switch: The Internet Electrical Store standard dimmers are recommended for mains voltage lighting only. The lights are dimmed by a rotary control knob and turned on and off by either a rotary on/off or a push-on/push-off action. Rotary on/off dimmers are only suitable for 1-way circuits. If you have a 2-way circuit (where the same lights are controlled by two switches) you must choose a push-on/push-off dimmer and replace one of the switches with that dimmer. You can only use one push-on/push-off dimmer in a 2-way circuit. It must be used in conjunction with a normal switch. When you switch on a push-on/off dimmer the lights will come on at the same level they were at before they were last switched off. Push-on/off dimmers can also be used in 1-way circuits. When selecting a standard dimmer add up the wattages of the bulbs you wish to dim and choose a dimmer with a suitable maximum load rating. Our stylish touch control and touch & remote control dimmers are suitable for mains lighting and electronic transformers including those requiring "trailing-edge" control. These dimmers are not suitable for wirewound transformers. They are suitable for 1-way circuits only unless they are used in combination with one or more of our touch control dimming slaves which enables you to dim the same lights from two or more switch locations in a 2-way or multi-way circuit. Varilight Energy Saving Dimmable CFL Light Bulbs: Varilight Energy Saving Dimmable CFL Light bulbs, rated at 20w but have an equivalent light power output of 100w. The Varilight Dimmable Energy Saving Compact Fluorescent Lamp won the 100% design awards in September 2007 and has featured in a Greenpeace demonstration highlighting energy saving lighting. During the lifetime of these bulbs; approximately 16,000 hours (grade A, far beating the competition), you can expect to save over £100 on energy bills and reduce CO2 emissions by half a tonne. This technology allows you to dim an energy saving light bulb using your dimmer switch. Best of all, this product will work perfectly with the remote control Varilight dimmers. Thus in dimming these products you can create the perfect ambience and be energy saving at the same time, particularly important when we are all trying to reduce our carbon footprint at the moment. For use with standard dimmer switches with a power output starting at 20w (Minimum load) - phase cut, leading and training edge technology The Main Features can be summarised as follows: Dimming range 2% to 100% Full dimming and constant brightness, regardless of voltage fluctuations Excellent power factoring Digital flicker - free regulation of brightness Plug & Play - swap your standard bulb to this new energy saving dimmable light bulb Produces 1300 lumens Excellent power factor correction of 0.95 compared to 0.60 for other CFL's, thus allowing for more efficient energy distribution and as discussed reduced energy costs. The Minimum load requirements are simple, the bulb is rated to 20w and thus your minimum load must be met. Example if you had a minimum load of 60w you should use 3 of these bulbs on that circuit, ie 3x20w = 60w Please note these energy saving bulbs work perfectly with all the remote control light switches as featured on this site. Reduce your carbon footprint today, save the environment and have ambient lighting around your home or work place. 'Screwless' Switches Explained: Two plates form to create the illusion of a screwless switch. Once installed the plate will sit approx 3mm from the wall. The outer plate simply clips into the second plate which is mounted as a normal switch would be. The result is a screwless wall switch as per the pictures below: YRC8 Varilight Rem
