Royal Liverpool University Hospital

The Royal University Hospital is the biggest and busiest hospital in Merseyside. It is part of the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. It has over 40 wards, more than 750 beds (excluding day care and dialysis beds) and has the main accident and emergency department for the City of Liverpool, the largest of its kind in the country, capable of dealing with major trauma and life threatening illness. ThermTech were asked to design, manufacture, supply and install two replacement economisers for the hospitals waste heat steel boiler. The economisers will together exchange 449kw of heat and thereby heat 4,600 KGH of DFW from 85°C to 168°C. Based on performance of other similar economisers that we have installed over the years the savings will be of the order of £100,000 per annum. In addition the reduction in Co2 emissions made by the economiser will be 835 tons per annum. This is a significant saving for the hospital each year and gives a very short payback on investment as well as having significant environmental benefits.
