ESB Louth
27-02-2012
Summary
■Generator installation for the Irish electricity board
■There was limited access with one main roadway in and one offshoot road
■The timescale was a 4 hour turnaround
■Access was required for two heavy trucks and one crane truck.
Problem
ESB needed to get a large generator into a grass field site in County Louth and lifted onto a concrete platform, access was through a farmer’s gate and ground conditions were soft with some standing water in places. 1 x 64ton truck carrying the generator was bought in as well as 1 x 60ton crane truck to lift the generator into position.
Solution
60 TuffTrak® were used to create one main roadway 150m long. The roadway was laid into the field with a secondary offshoot roadway laid parallel to the original roadway, this was to accommodate the lifting crane truck. The TuffTrak® was connected with the flex connector to allow for the uneven ground conditions.
Verdict
ESB were able to complete the job in the designated time of 4 hours, this included the installation and removal of the roadway.
